Why Spa Safety Inspections Are Essential
While spas may seem less hazardous than swimming pools due to their smaller size, they still pose significant risks, especially to young children. In NSW, the same stringent safety standards that apply to swimming pools also cover spas. This includes regulations for fencing, access control, and signage to prevent accidents and drownings.
The Swimming Pools Act 1992 and Swimming Pools Regulation 2018 stipulate that spas capable of being filled with water deeper than 30cm must have compliant safety barriers. If your spa does not have a securely fitted, child-resistant cover, it must be enclosed by a compliant safety fence.
Our Spa Safety Inspection Process
1. Fencing Compliance: If your spa is not fitted with a child-resistant cover, it must be enclosed by a fence that meets the same standards as pool fencing. This means the fence must be at least 1.2m high, with gaps no wider than 10cm, and there must be no objects that could be used to climb into the spa area
2. Access Control: Spa gates must be self-closing, self-latching, and swing outward from the spa area. We inspect the functionality of your gate and ensure it is equipped with a latch that is at least 150cm off the ground, preventing children from easily opening it.
4. CPR Signage: Like with pools, NSW law mandates that a CPR sign be displayed near your spa. The sign must be visible and easy to read from a distance of 3 meters.
Issuing Spa Safety Certificates
Once your spa has passed our safety inspection, Pool Safety Pros will issue a Spa Safety Certificate, which is required if you are selling or leasing your property. This certificate is valid for three years and demonstrates that your spa complies with all NSW safety standards.
If any issues are found during the inspection, we provide a detailed report and clear recommendations for rectifying the problems. We also offer re-inspection services to help you achieve compliance as quickly as possible.
