Why Pool Safety Matters in NSW
In New South Wales, the Swimming Pools Act 1992 and Swimming Pools Regulation 2018 outline strict requirements for pool safety barriers to prevent accidents, especially involving children under the age of five. These laws require all swimming pools capable of holding water deeper than 30 cm to have compliant child-resistant barriers. Non-compliance can lead to severe fines, with penalties ranging up to $5,500(NSW Fair Trading).
Pool safety isn’t just about avoiding penalties. With drowning being a leading cause of death for children in home pools, following NSW regulations is crucial for providing a safe environment. By choosing Pool Safety Pros, you can be confident that your pool area is secure and meets all legal standards.

Our Comprehensive Pool Safety Inspections
Our certified inspectors offer a thorough inspection service that addresses all the key elements of NSW pool safety regulations. This includes:
2. Non-Climbable Zone (NCZ): NSW law mandates a 90 cm non-climbable zone around the outside of the pool fence, both upwards and downwards, to prevent children from climbing into the pool area. This zone must remain clear of objects such as furniture, trees, or other climbable surfaces.
3. Gates and Latches: Pool gates must be self-closing, self-latching, and should swing outward, away from the pool. The latching device must be located at least 150 cm above the ground to prevent children from easily opening it.
4. Windows and Doors: If windows or doors form part of your pool barrier, they must comply with specific safety standards. For example, windows must have restrictors that prevent them from opening more than 10 cm.
5. CPR Signage: NSW law requires all pool owners to display a CPR sign in a visible location near the pool. The sign must be easy to read and placed within 3 meters of the pool fence or gate.
On-the-Spot Rectifications and Compliance Certificates
If minor non-compliance issues are identified during our inspection, Pool Safety Pros offers the convenience of on-the-spot rectifications. For example, if your CPR sign is outdated, we can provide a new one immediately. This ensures minimal delays in obtaining your Pool Safety Certificate, which is required when selling or leasing a property.
Once your pool complies with all relevant standards, we issue a Pool Safety Certificate, valid for three years. If any issues remain, we provide a detailed report and clear guidance to help you address them before arranging a re-inspection.
